In a season of bligity blogs, facey spaces, and twitty pages, it is easy to feel you are letting your friends and family know what is going on in your life.

There is a term that has made it from the horizon to the forefront of our current pop culture.

The term is “SELFIE.”  We see them everywhere; people being visually vulnerable and letting others inside a private moment.  I, likemost people, probably think that that is enough, or at the least, that’s all I am going to take time to show.

It is not easy to be so transparent that the people you trust can call you out when you are drifting away.

I heard a statement once that really stuck out to me: “Your acquaintances hear what you say; your friends listen what you say; your BEST FRIENDS listen to what you do not say.”  I am thankful that there are the selfie moments when we are looking at ourselves.

Taking the time necessary to evoke the hard question that, if left unanswered, can cause us to entertain the wrong thoughts that lead to mistakes in our lives.  I kind of like to repeat simple things over and over until they sink in to my heart and become pillars of strength.

This comes to mind, The Private Speaks to the Public.  We live in a time where the public is speaking to the private.  Your look, house, car, career, or platform does not determine who you are.

It is the private things like character, ethic, good nature, forgiveness, and love that truly represent who you are.

So, the next time you are with your bestie, have a selfie moment and show what is really going on inside of you.  This one simple act when repeated over a lifetime will truly help you become a person of freedom, confidence, and joy…

Psalm 139:23-24 (Msg)   Investigate my life, O God, find out everything about me; cross-examine and test me, get a clear picture of what I’m about; see for yourself whether I’ve done anything wrong, then guide me on the road to eternal life.
